What is Propolis?
Bees make propolis, which they use to glue the materials of their hives together, by mixing beeswax and other secretions with resins from the buds of conifer and poplar trees. Those resins have natural germicidal properties. For centuries, people have used propolis on wounds and as a remedy for ailments ranging from acne to cancer, osteoporosis, itching, and tuberculosis. Today, propolis is used in the manufacture of chewing gum, cosmetics, creams, lozenges and ointments and is being investigated as a dental sealant and tooth enamel hardener. A number of studies have tested its effectiveness in humans and animals as a treatment for burns, minor wounds, infections, inflammatory diseases and dental pain. Propolis has antibiotic and antiseptic properties and may also have antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects.
So… What is so special about Brazilian Green Propolis?
The grade of propolis is dependent on its botanical origins and the type of bees that produce it. The Minas Gerais forests are densely populated with rosemary (Baccharis dracunculifolia) and eucalyptus-type trees from which high-quality green propolis can be produced. Brazilian Green Propolis is collected from the unexpanded leaf buds of Baccharis dracunculifolia plant by the Africanised honeybee. Only this bee specie has the capacity to produce Brazilian Green Propolis with concentrated Artepillin-C, a powerful constituent not found in propolis from other regions. Artepillin-C has strong anti-bacterial fighting properties and is well-known for its ability to suppress tumor growth.
